Self-Esteem

Do you struggle with low self-esteem?

Self-esteem is how we feel about ourselves and our abilities. It is our general sense of self-worth, despite the ups and downs of normal life.

Low self-esteem is often characterized by negative thoughts about the self and excessive  self-criticism, which leads to issues such as anxiety and depression. People who struggle with low-self-esteem may engage in behaviors including people-pleasing, perfectionism, reassurance-seeking, self-punishment and anger directed at oneself.

Often self-esteem issues are caused by external factors related to things such as upbringing and discrimination. Therapy can help improve self-esteem by learning tools for managing negative thought patterns, exploring experiences that lead to low self-esteem, and increasing self-compassion.
